Looming on the horizon are City-wide so called "Wi-fi Clouds" or "Hot Spots”, Wi-fi enabled games consoles and Wide-area WiMAX - All of which use similar technology to Mobile Telephone Masts, and come with the same serious Health Effects. Please read our two leaflets (available for free download from the left and right columns) for more details.
The country's biggest Wi-Fi network has been launched in London. Thames Online will provide about 12km of seamless coverage - from Westminster to Greenwich - along the river. Read here.
Nine UK city centres are to get blanket wireless broadband coverage as part of a deal between Wi-Fi operator The Cloud and telecoms giant BT.
About 500 BT payphones in Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Oxford, Cambridge and Liverpool, as well as in the London Boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea, Camden and Islington, are to be fitted with discrete WiFi boxes to create a "cloud" of coverage. Read here.
Commuters on London's Tube network could be able to use mobile phones and wireless internet connections deep underground from 2008 if trials for the technology get the green light.
Mayor Ken Livingstone is looking for suppliers to install their kit to enable commuters to use mobiles and wireless laptops on stations. The scheme could even be extended to include trains as well as underground stations. Read here.
The Corporation of the City of London has decided to install a Wi-Fi network to cover the Square Mile with full coverage by September 2006. Equipment will be installed in lamp posts and street signs in the Square Mile. Read here.
None of this technology has been proven to be safe. Have members of the public been consulted as to whether they want the dangerous emissions from the above devices bombarding them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week? No. What a massive outcry there would be if people realised that there was to be the equivalent of a Mobile Telephone Mast installed outside each of their houses. Don't let them succeed in 'quietly' exposing you to dangerous emissions without a fight. Write and object to the authorities (your Council, your MP, the Health Minister, the Shadow Health Minister and the LibDem Spokesman for Health, etc.), the Media too - let them know you know what they are doing, and that you know the health risks and that you do not want these very serious health risks to be imposed on you. Demand that they stop the roll-out of (and selling of) devices using such technology till the Independent Scientists agree that it is no risk to our health.
If you want to see the emissions that these devices are giving off, why not hire a meter from EMFields and see for yourself.
We would recommend to buy two: 1) "The MW1 Electrosmog Detector", listed first on the page. It makes a noise when you are receiving microwave/mast emissions. It is very sensitive. You can use standard walkman-type earphones with it so you can walk around with it easily with it not being intrusive, and 2) "The COM Monitor". This gives actual readings of the emissions given. (It is not good enough to only have this one since it does not fully pick up 3G signals, so having no reading from it does not necessarily mean 'no signal', i.e. it can be somewhat misleading). However, If you only want to buy one meter, we would recommend you buy the former, "The MW1 Electrosmog Detector". This is the one we take around with us and use a lot.
Other known wireless microwave sources are Mobile Phones, Wireless Networking (Wi-fi), Cordless Telephones (DECT), Bluetooth, Wireless (Interactive) Whiteboards and Baby Monitors, some burglar alarms etc. |
